1. Monday, November 09 - IECME presents African Dance Symposium

On Monday, November 9 and Tuesday, November 10 The Rutgers Institute on Ethnicity, Culture, and the Modern Experience is presenting a 2-day Symposium, “Dance As Community Identity: A Symposium on North African Dance and Culture.”
IECME’s symposium is featuring an exploration of dance and culture from several North African Countries with two internationally-respected dance scholars: Morocco of New York City, and Amel Tafsout of Eugene, Oregon.
The Symposium includes lectures by Morocco and Amel, Nov. 9, 11:30 a.m. in the Dana Room, Dana Library; a concert of North African and Egyptian dance, Nov. 9, 7:30 p.m. in Bradley Hall Theater; and workshops on two distinct North African dance traditions, Nov. 10, 12p.m., 3rd floor dance studio, Robeson Campus Center.
All events are free and open to the public.

2. Wednesday, November 04 - RU-Fair Women in Science presents Dr. Deborah Kolb

On Wednesday, November 4, 2:30-3:50p.m., RU-Fair Women in Science presents Dr. Deborah Kolb, Simons School of Management lecture, “Negotiating Conditions for Career Success.”
Dr. Kolb’s lecture will take place at the Paul Robeson Campus Center, Sussex Room, 235.

3. Wednesday, November 04 - Burmese Monks of the Saffron Revolution return to Rutgers-Newark

Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights in collaboration with Rutgers Newark Amnesty International Student Group are proud to present:

U Pyinar Zawta is the leading monk of the Saffron Revolution and an activist in the All Burma Monks Alliance. He was imprisoned by the SPDC for nine years for peacefully protesting against the Burmese government.
U Gawasita was an organizer in the Saffron Revolution and HIV/AIDS activist in Burma.
Pyinan Nyar Thiri was at the center of the Saffron Revolution.
Dr. Yee Yee Htwe is a Lee Kuan Yew Fellow at Harvard University.

4. Thursday, November 12 - IECME presents "The Humane City: Race, Ethnicity and Freedom in Urban America"

The Institute on Ethnicity, Culture, and the Modern Experience and the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission Foundation present a civic conversation entitled, "The Humane City: Race, Ethnicity and Freedom in Urban America."
This event will be held on November 12, 6:00pm, at The Billy Johnson Auditorium, The Newark Museum.
The Town Hall meeting, moderated by Newark's own James O. Horton, will bring together a respected panel of educators, historians and journalists to explore what it takes to build a compassionate city where the challenges of diversity and social justice are confronted daily on the streets, in the schools and along the halls of power.
Panelists include Eric Foner, Nancy Foner, Jeff Johnson, Pedro Noguera and Maria Vizcarrondo.
The town hall is free and open to the public.

6. Tuesday, November 17 - Writers at Newark Reading Series presents Beth Gutcheon and Honor Moore

Rutgers-Newark MFA Program’s Writers at Newark Reading Series presents Beth Gutcheon and Honor Moore.
Beth Gutcheon is the author of Leeway Cottage, Goodbye and Amen, More Than You Know, and Still Missing, which was made into a feature film.
Honor Moore is the author of The Bishop's Daughter, which was a finalist for a National Book Critics Circle Awrad in the Autobiography category.
Time: 5:30-7:00p.m.
