Career Paths for Television Graduates

Graduates from Television choose one of two concentrations; Documentary or Dramatic video production. As the career path for documentary production is a faster track than a feature film ( dramatic) one, we place a higher emphasis on documentary.

Students  learn how to research their chosen documentary subject, prepare and conduct interviews, organize content and information on paper and negotiate releases and rights. Technically, students learn all the traditional technical skills such as: proper audio miking, lighting, advanced cinematography, digital non linear editing, post audio sweetening and music mixing. This gives them a high level of technical skills which makes them very competitive in the job market.

Students also build analytical skills by the many screenings, critiques and deconstructions of a great variety of documentaries ranging from traditional ( Ken Burns, PBS) to more popular approaches and artistic/experimental work.

The combination of technical skills and a sophisticated aesthetic has enabled graduates to find work at many production companies including VH1, MTV and independent film and documentary companies. As the program's technical facilities have been improved to match current mainstream production standards, the broadcastability of  our student's work has improved vastly. Finished student work is currently being webcast at sites such as Current TV and Metro Newark.
