Urban Connections and Outreach

History

The U.S. History Saturday Academy. This program is run by the Department
of history and the Institute on Ethnicity, Culture and the Modern Experience
in partnership wtih the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. It
offers six-week courses to Newark students grades 7 through 12 on selected
topics in U.S. history. The courses are free; transportation and
refreshments are also provided. The goal is to introduce students to the
wide range of methods by which historians make sense of our past.

Teachers as Scholars. This program is run by the Department of history and
the Institute on Ethnicity, Culture and the Modern Experience in partnership
wtih the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. It offers training
to Newark area teachers in U.S. history.

Internships. History M.A. students can take internships at the New Jersey
Historical Society and the Newark Museum for course credit.
